MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's basketball, rifle, golf and tennis teams received public recognition today by the NCAA for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The four teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The WVU men's basketball team has now been recognized for the fourth consecutive year and sixth time in the last 10 years. Rifle earned its third consecutive and fourth overall public recognition. Golf and tennis earned their second consecutive public recognition by the NCAA.
These latest multiyear APR rates are based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
Each year, the NCAA honors selected Division I sports teams by publicly recognizing their latest multiyear NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APR scores for all WVU's athletic teams, including the teams receiving public recognition awards, will be announced by the NCAA at a later date.
