MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Following four wins over Binghamton and Marshall, sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau of the West Virginia University tennis team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.

Courteau collected two singles wins, both in two sets, this weekend, defeating Binghamton's Maria Pandya, 6-4, 6-0, from the No. 3 slot on Saturday. On Sunday, the sophomore defeated Marshall's Madi Ballow, 6-2, 6-3, from the No. 4 slot to earn her ninth singles win, a career high.

In doubles, the Quebec, Canada, native paired with fellow sophomore Giovanna Caputo to defeat Binghamton's Tiffany Dunn and Samara Eisenber, 6-3. Against Marshall, Courteau partnered with senior Abigail Rosiello to beat Anna Smith and Daniela Dankanych, 6-3.

Courteau (16-5) leads the Mountaineers with nine singles wins and seven doubles wins. Her 16 total wins also lead the team.

This Week in Women's Basketball: West Virginia is off this week.

Last Week in Women's Basketball: The Mountaineers wrapped up the regular season on Monday, hosting No. 1 Baylor at the WVU Coliseum … WVU battled to the wire but fell to the top-ranked Lady Bears, 63-57 … senior forward Naomi Davenport netted a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds … redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin had 18 points and three steals, while freshman forward Kari Niblack had 13 points and a pair of blocks … West Virginia earned the No. 4 seed in the 2019 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship and squared off with No. 5 Kansas State on Saturday at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma … the Mountaineers suffered a 72-59 setback to the Wildcats, ending their tournament run … Davenport had a team-high 14 points, followed by 13 from Niblack.

Notes: With 19 points at K-State, Davenport became the 36th Mountaineer to reach 1,000 career points … she is just the second junior-college transfer in WVU program history to achieve the feat in a two-year career … J.D. Drummonds (1979-81) is the only other JUCO player to hit the 1,000-point plateau for the Mountaineers … WVU picked up its 20th win of the season with the triumph of Kansas on March 2 … it marks the sixth-straight 20-win season for West Virginia and the 13th under coach Mike Carey.

This Week in Gymnastics: The Mountaineers will compete twice in five days … first up, a tri meet at No. 21 Arizona State with No. 14 BYU on Wednesday, March 13, at 9:30 p.m. EST … on Sunday, March 17, WVU plays host to No. 22 Ohio State, No. 24 Penn State and NC State at the 2 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum … it's Senior Day, and the Mountaineers will honor Carly Galpin, Kirah Koshinski and Jaquie Tun postmeet.

Last Week in Gymnastics: WVU (16-7, 0-4 Big 12) did not compete last week.

Notes: Sunday is WVU's home season finale … the Mountaineers are 0-4 against ranked teams this season … WVU currently ranks No. 28 in the Road to Nationals Rankings with a 195.635 NQS).

This Week in Track & Field: The Mountaineers open the 2019 outdoor campaign at the 49er Classic, from March 15-16, in Charlotte, North Carolina … the action begins on Friday at 11 a.m., at Charlotte's Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Last Week in Track & Field: Redshirt senior Madelin Gardner placed ninth in the women's pole vault at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, on March 9, in Birmingham, Alabama … Gardner jumped 4.26 meters (13 feet, 11.75 inches) to earn All-America Second Team honors.

Notes: Gardner earned her third career All-America accolade on Saturday, becoming the 15th women's track and field athlete to earn at least three All-America honors … she also matched her ninth-place finish in the pole vault at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships … WVU will open its outdoor season at Charlotte for the second consecutive season … in all, the Mountaineers will compete nine consecutive weekends, concluding with the Big 12 Outdoor Championship, from May 10-12, in Norman, Oklahoma.

This Week in Wrestling: WVU does not compete this week … four Mountaineers earned automatic bids to the 2019 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, slated for March 21-23, held at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh … wrestlers who do not earn a bid at their qualifying tournament may still be eligible for one of 44 at-large bids, which will be announced on Tuesday, followed by brackets and seeding on Wednesday … all weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers ... the at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition, quality wins, coaches' panel rankings, results against common opponents, rating percentage index (RPI), qualifying event placement and winning percentage.

Last Week in Wrestling: Five Mountaineers finished on the podium, including two fourth-place finishes from redshirt sophomore Matthew Schmitt (133) and redshirt senior Christian Monserrat (149), as West Virginia completed the 2019 Big 12 Wrestling Championship on Sunday, held at the BOK Center, in Tulsa, Oklahoma … in addition, redshirt freshman Noah Adams placed fifth in the 197-pound bracket, while junior Brandon Ngati took sixth in the heavyweight division ... true freshman Caleb Rea also placed sixth in the 141-pound pool ... with their podium finishes at this year's conference championship, Schmitt, Monserrat, Ngati and Adams all qualified for the NCAA Tournament at their respective weights …. Rea just missed an automatic bid to nationals, as Wyoming's Sam Turner challenged him to a true sixth-place match for the last qualifying spot in their respective weight class.

Notes: Five Mountaineers rank in the top 33 of their respective weights in the most recent NCAA coaches' panel rankings ... Schmitt comes in at No. 16 at 133 pounds, while Monserrat moves up one spot to No. 17 in his weight class of 149 pounds … sophomore Nick Kiussis and Adams each sit at No. 26 at 165 and 197 pounds, respectively … Ngati rounds out the Mountaineers in the coaches' panel, ranking at No. 30 in the heavyweight division … additionally, Schmitt, Monserrat, Kiussis and Adams each appear in the RPI rankings ... Adams is the highest-ranked Mountaineer at No. 15 at 197 pounds, while Schmitt (133) and Monserrat (149) appear at No. 17 in their respective weight classes ... Kiussis also sits at No. 28 in the 165-pound division.

This Week in Rifle: The 2018-19 season is complete.

Last Week in Rifle: The Mountaineers (13-0, 8-0 GARC) finished second at the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships, held March 8-9 at the Bill McKenzie Rifle Range inside the WVU Coliseum … WVU finished second in smallbore on Friday, shooting 2331, the best mark of the day … TCU, the eventual 2019 National Champion, won the smallbore tiebreaker with a 127-112 edge in center shots … the Mountaineers placed third in air rifle with a 2361 total on Saturday and second overall with a 4692 mark … sophomore David Koenders finished a team-best third in smallbore with a 444.8 total in the final … junior Milica Babic placed fifth in air rifle with a 183.5 final score.

Notes: Senior Ginny Thrasher finished fifth in smallbore with a 423.1 mark, while junior Morgan Phillips finished seventh with a 402.3 mark … Koenders and Thrasher entered the smallbore final tied for third with 586 marks … the score was two-shots short of Koenders' career high and three short of Thrasher's season best … Phillips qualified in seventh place with a 585 total … on Saturday, Thrasher just missed qualifying for the air rifle final, finishing 11th with a 591 mark … sophomore Sarah Osborn also shot for the Mountaineers this week … WVU drew a two-day crowd of 2,215, an NCAA Rifle Championships record.

This Week in Swimming & Diving: Nine divers compete at the 2019 NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, from March 11-13, in Annapolis, Maryland … the three-day competition, which will determine the zone's qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, is being hosted by Navy at Lejeune Hall.

Last Week in Swimming & Diving: Junior Morgan Bullock was named a qualifier for the NCAA Women's Championships, on March 6 … the 2018 honorable mention All-American will swim in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 individual medley at the national meet from March 20-23, in Austin, Texas.

Notes: The Mountaineers are being represented by seniors Julia Calcut, Averly Hobbs and Madelyn Woods, sophomore Callie Smith, redshirt freshman Jacob Cardinal Tremblay and freshmen Camille Burt, Nick Cover, PJ Lenz and Emma Longley at the Zone Championships … the top-six men's divers on 1-meter, top five on 3-meter and top four on platform will qualify for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, while the women will advance the top-six divers on 1-meter and top five on 3-meter and platform … Calcut earned a pair of finals appearances at Zones last year, placing 10th on 3-meter and 12th on 1-meter … WVU's nine qualifiers at Zones are the most since 2015-16 … Bullock was named an NCAA qualifier for the second consecutive season, becoming the program's first back-to-back selection since Rachael Burnett and Mandie Nugent in 2013 … she ranks No. 24 nationally in the 200 fly with a top time of 1:55.25.

This Week in Tennis: WVU (8-3, 0-1 Big 12) travels to Texas from March 15-17, to square off with Texas Tech and TCU ... Friday's matchup with the Red Raiders is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET in Lubbock ... Sunday's contest against the Horned Frogs is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET in Fort Worth.

Last Week in Tennis: The Mountaineers rebounded after two straight losses, defeating Binghamton, 7-0, and in-state rival Marshall, 5-2, over the weekend ... WVU's win over Binghamton was the second clean sweep of an opponent of the season ... the Mountaineers' win over Marshall was their third-straight victory over the Thundering Herd and pushed their record to 24-17 in the all-time series ... sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau led the team win four wins (2-0 in singles, 2-0 in doubles).

Notes: Following its clean sweep of Binghamton, WVU has earned two sweeps this season ... the last time WVU earned two clean sweeps in the same season was 2015, when it defeated Eastern Michigan, 7-0, and UMBC, 7-0 ... West Virginia owns a 119-110 record over 2019 opponents, but has yet to claim a win over Texas Tech or TCU ... in last year's regular-season contest, Texas Tech defeated WVU, 4-0, in Morgantown ... the Mountaineers last competed against TCU at the 2018 Big 12 Championship, where the Horned Frogs bested WVU, 5-1 ... West Virginia owns a 42-22 record in singles play and a 17-14 record in doubles play ... Courteau leads the team with an 16-5 record (9-2 in singles, 7-3 in doubles) ... freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia is second on the team with a 13-6 record (8-2 in singles, 5-4 in doubles).

This Week in Golf: West Virginia does not compete until March 23-25, at the Hootie at Bulls Bay in Charleston, South Carolina.

Notes: West Virginia checks in at No. 43 in this week's Golfstat Rankings … a pair of Mountaineers rank in the top 100 as individuals as senior Max Sear ranks at No. 84 and sophomore Matt Sharpstene is at No. 98 … Sear leads the team with a 70.50 scoring average … Sharpstene is second at 70.89, while junior Etienne Papineau is third at 72.06 … Sharpstene leads the team with 66 birdies.

This Week in Baseball: West Virginia returns to the road for five games this week during WVU's spring break … the week begins with a pair of games at Morehead State, on March 12 and 13, both at 3 p.m. ET … the week concludes with a weekend series at William & Mary, from March 15-17 … first pitch on Friday is at 6 p.m. ET, followed by a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday and a 1 p.m. finale on Sunday.

Last Week in Baseball: West Virginia swept Kent State last week, with 6-2 and 8-4 victories on March 9, followed by a 9-7 win in Sunday's finale … Alek Manoah struck out 12 and the offense scored six in the final three innings in Saturday's opener … Manoah struck out the side in the sixth and seventh innings, part of a stretch where he struck out nine of 10 batters, and allowed two runs on five hits in 7.2 innings … WVU was held hitless into the sixth inning until a two-tun triple by Darius Hill … Hill and Brandon White each had two RBIs, while Paul McIntosh had a career-best two hits, an RBI and scored two runs … the Mountaineers rallied to complete the doubleheader sweep, thanks to a five-run sixth inning to erase a 4-0 deficit followed by three insurance runs in the eighth … McIntosh had two hits and three RBIs, both career-highs, and hit his second home run in three days, a go-ahead, three-run shot in the sixth inning … Gabe Kurtzhals earned the win and held Kent State hitless with a strikeout and a walk in 2.0 innings, and he was one of three freshmen to pitch in Saturday's second contest, a trio that combined to allow two runs on three hits in 5.2 innings … as the lead changed four times, WVU completed the series sweep on Sunday thanks to runs in five consecutive innings … a five-run sixth capped the scoring and was highlighted by a three-run home run by Kevin Brophy, while Tyler Doanes homered in the third inning … the West Virginia offense scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings, taking a 2-0 lead after three and regaining a 4-3 advantage in the fifth … after Kent State scored two in the top of the sixth to take a 5-4 lead, the Mountaineers answered with five in the bottom half to go up 9-5. KSU scored two in the top of the seventh, but could not get any closer.

Notes: West Virginia is 9-5 on the season, 5-0 at home, and has won four in a row … The three-game sweep of Kent State is WVU's first since the Mountaineers won all three games in 2017 at Western Kentucky, from March 2-4 … Manoah's 12 strikeouts in a 6-2 series-opening win are the second-most in his career, behind 13 to open the 2019 season, and the most in the Big 12 this week … Manoah improved to 2-1 with the win … McIntosh had a career-best two hits in both games of Saturday's doubleheader and added a career-high three RBIs with his second home run in three games in the nightcap … Kurtzhals collected his first win and Zach Reid earned his first save in Saturday's nightcap … Doanes had a career-high-tying three hits and a season-best three RBIs in Sunday's finale, and hit his second career home run and first of the year in the third inning … Brophy had two hits and five RBIs, both season-high totals, and hit his second homer of the season and eighth of his career in the sixth inning … Ryan Bergert earned his first career win and Sam Kessler earned his third save of the season to complete the sweep.
