West Virginia and Oklahoma State meet for the second time this season and 17th time overall on Wednesday. WVU holds a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series and is 8-6 in Big 12 play. Though Oklahoma State took both regular-season meetings last year, WVU has claimed the last two meetings. The teams first met on Dec. 31, 1999, when WVU earned an 80-76 win at the Charleston Civic Center.
The Mountaineers picked up their first Big 12 win of the season on Jan. 9 with a 67-58 win over the Cowgirls at the WVU Coliseum. Redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin had 21 points, shooting 9-for-18 from the field. Freshman forward Kari Niblack had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Katrina Pardee had 14 points in the win, but left in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and has not played since.
West Virginia is coming off a 79-65 win over TCU on Saturday in Morgantown, avenging an earlier loss to the Horned Frogs. The Mountaineers' first 15 points of the game all came on 3-pointers. The team's 12 3-point field goals made is a season high. The win was WVU's ninth of league play, marking their best Big 12 season since 2015-16.
Martin led the way with 21 points, marking her 10th 20-point effort of the season and tied her career high with six treys. Freshman guard Madisen Smith posted 17 points and a career-high eight assists, earning Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors as well as USBWA Association National Freshman of the Week accolades. Senior forward Naomi Davenport netted 15 points and 10 rebounds for her team-leading sixth double-double of the season. Davenport is one of four Mountaineers to combine for 13 double-doubles this season.
Oklahoma State, who 13-11 on the season and 4-9 in league play, is in the midst of a three-game skid, most recently falling at Iowa State, 89-67, on Saturday. The Cowgirls average 67.8 points and 40.3 rebounds per game and are shooting 38.2 percent from the field, 34.4 percent from downtown and 72.6 percent from the free-throw line.
