Mountaineers Host Cornell on New Year’s Eve

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 19/21 West Virginia University women's basketball team returns to the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, to square off against Cornell, with opening tip scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will call the game for the Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. The game can be found on Jack-FM 100.9 as well as affiliates across the state, the TuneIn Radio App and WVUSports.com. A live stream of Tuesday's contest can be found on WVUsports.com.
WVU's contest against the Big Red is New Years' at the Coliseum, featuring a 2020 giveaway and a New Years' brunch. Tickets can be purchased for as low as $3 at WVUgame.com. WVU students receive free admission with a valid ID.
"This is a big game here tomorrow," WVU coach Mike Carey said. "This is another team that spreads you, drives you, shoots you and that type of stuff. So, we can't forget about this team tomorrow, and then, we get into Big 12 play."
The Mountaineers (9-1) and the Big Red (6-4) meet for the second time in the series on Tuesday, with the first contest coming at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, on Nov. 18, 2007. West Virginia defeated Cornell 93-52. WVU is 5-0 all-time against current members of the Ivy League.
West Virginia is coming off a trip to the 2019 Florida Sunshine Classic at Rollins College, in Orlando, Florida. The Mountaineers played a pair of games against then-No.19/23 Michigan State and Syracuse from Dec. 21-22. WVU defeated Michigan State 63-57 in the first game of the round-robin tournament, marking the Mountaineers' second victory against a ranked opponent this season. West Virginia then defeated Syracuse 71-69 to claim the 2019 Florida Sunshine Classic title.
Following the win over Syracuse, redshirt senior guard Tynice Martin and sophomore forward Kari Niblack were named to the Florida Sunshine Classic All-Tournament, and Kysre Gondrezick was named the tournament's most valuable player.
