MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 25 West Virginia University women's basketball team will host Coppin State and 35 local middle and elementary schools in a special 10 a.m. tipoff as part of Education Day at the WVU Coliseum on Thursday.
Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will call the game for the Mountaineer Sports Network from Learfield IMG College. The game can be found on Jack-FM 100.9 as well as affiliates across the state, the TuneIn Radio App and WVUSports.com. A free live stream is available at WVUsports.com.
Admission is free for all fans who wish to attend. Season ticket holder and general admission seating will be in sections C1-C6. This game was not included as part of the season ticket package in order to accommodate the large number of elementary and middle school students planning on attending. Season ticket holders who wish to sit in their normal seats in C1-C6 are encouraged to arrive early to do so. Seating in this area will be on a first-come, first-served basis to general fans, as well as season ticket holders. Please note the clear bag policy will be in effect for the game. Gates will open at 8:30 a.m.
It marks the program's second annual Education Day celebration. Last season, more than 9,000 fans came out to watch the Mountaineers knock off Byrant. It went down as the second-best crowd in women's basketball history.
The Mountaineers (3-0) and the Eagles (0-4) meet for the seventh straight season and the 12th time overall. WVU owns an unblemished 11-0 mark over Coppin State. Ten of the 11 prior meetings have come in Morgantown, with the inaugural game coming at Cole Field House in College Park, Maryland, on Nov. 28, 1999. The Mountaineers have crossed the 100-point threshold on one occasion, which accounted for the largest margin of victory at 101-43 in Dec. 2017. The 2019 season marks the fourth year in which the Mountaineers are nationally ranked for the meeting.
WVU made its debut in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll, coming in at No. 25. The team had received votes in the first three weeks of the poll. West Virginia has appeared in the rankings for at least one week for 11 straight seasons and has been ranked by the Associated Press for a total of 114 weeks.
