Wednesday is a Dollar Night, with all tickets available for the cost of $1. It's also Trivia Night, featuring various prizes throughout the game.
West Virginia and Oklahoma State meet for the 16th time overall and the first time in 2018-19. The Mountaineers bring a 9-4 overall mark and at 0-2 are still looking for their first Big 12 win, while the Cowgirls are 10-3 and are 1-1 in league action. The two last met in the 2018 Big 12 Championship quarterfinals in Oklahoma City, with the Mountaineers taking the 69-60 victory to move onto the semifinals.
"Their leading scorers are on the perimeter, and they have some post players that can also play," coach Mike Carey said. "(Coach Jim Littell) does a great job. He does a tremendous job. He's a good friend of mine, and he'll have them ready to play. They're a really good team."
WVU is coming off a 70-58 loss to No. 13 Texas on Sunday. Senior forward Naomi Davenport led the way with 26 points and seven rebounds in the game while freshman guard Madisen Smith had nine as well. Redshirt junior guard Tynice Martin had nine points, all from 3-pointers, as her 100-game double-digit scoring streak was snapped. The last time Martin was held to single digits was on Feb. 15, 2017, when she had four points against Kansas State.
West Virginia shot 38.8 percent from the field, which was the team's third-lowest output of the season, and 36.8 percent from downtown. The Mountaineers were also limited to a season-low four offensive boards against the Longhorns. Though both teams had 17 turnovers, the Mountaineers were able to score 21 points of the Longhorn miscues, while Texas scored just 10 points off WVU turnovers.
The Cowgirls enter the WVU Coliseum with a 10-3 overall mark and a 1-1 record in Big 12 play after topping TCU, 75-71, on Sunday. Prior to that, OSU fell to Texas by a score of 60-51. The Cowgirls average 70.5 points and 43.8 rebounds per game with 6.9 3-pointers made and they're shooting 39.3 percent overall, 35.7 percent on 3-pointers and 71.1 percent from the free-throw line.
Sophomore guard Braxtin Miller leads the scoring with 17.8 points per game and is closely followed by sophomore forward Vivian Gray at 17.6 points per game. Gray also has a team-best 17 blocks and 19 steals. Senior forward LaTashia Jones leads the rebounding at 9.8 boards per contest.
Next up for West Virginia is a road test at Oklahoma. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on Sunday in Norman, Oklahoma.
