April 03, 2018 10:27 AM | Baseball
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Due to inclement weather in the State College, Pennsylvania, area, tonight's West Virginia University baseball game at Penn State has been postponed, and WVU instead will host Niagara tonight at 5 p.m. ET, at Monongalia County Ballpark.
Admission will be free for all fans for this evening's game in Morgantown.
The Mountaineers (10-14, 1-5 Big 12) begin the month of April playing 15 of their next 18 games at home. Tuesday's game vs. Niagara comes after WVU played 21 road games in its first 24 games to begin the season. Thanks to a heavy road slate early in the season, West Virginia is No. 24 in the latest RPI rankings, and the Big 12 boasts the No. 2 RPI in the country.
The Purple Eagles (7-12, 2-1 MAAC) conclude a 19-game roadtrip to open the season. Niagara is playing its first midweek game of the season before hosting Iona this weekend. NU commenced MAAC play with a series win at Fairfield last weekend.
West Virginia is 15-3 all-time vs. Niagara, with all 18 previous meetings coming in Morgantown. The two teams last met in 2012 and split a doubleheader.
Freshman left-hander Jackson Wolf (1-0, 2.79 ERA) will make the start for the Mountaineers. He will face fellow freshman lefty Alexandre Jones (2-1, 7.62). Wolf, who earned his first career win on Thursday at No. 7 Texas Tech, makes his first career start and seventh appearance of the season.
