Mountaineers to Welcome Dukes Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After a delay in the opponent's travel schedule, the West Virginia women's basketball team will welcome James Madison on Friday in the third round of WNIT action. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
Tickets are available at a cost of $6 for general admission, $4 for youth tickets and $3 for groups of 10 or more. Carey's Crew and Mountaineer Kids Club members receive free admission courtesy of United Bank, while WVU students also receive free admission. A valid student ID, MKC or Carey's Crew membership card must be shown to receive the free ticket.
The first 350 fans in attendance will receive vouchers for free pizza and a drink at the concession stands. All beer will be half price at the concession stands between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.
Dan Zangrilli and Ayana Dunning will have the call for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans can listen to the game on WMMN 95.7 FM/920 AM in the Morgantown/Fairmont area, as well as TuneIn, the WVU GameDay app and WVUsports.com. A free live stream will also be available on WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers (23-11) advanced to the third round of the WNIT for the third time in program history with a 79-51 win over Saint Joseph's on Sunday, moving to 11-0 at home all-time in the tournament. Junior guard/forward Naomi Davenport led the team with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists while senior forward Teana Muldrow notched her 14th double-double of the season and the 24th of her career with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Four of five starters finished in double figures as junior guard Katrina Pardee and senior forward Kristina King each netted 15 points in the win. Senior guard Chania Ray posted eight assists to move into seventh place all-time. It marked the 11th time this season Ray has recorded eight or more assists in a game.
Muldrow, who became the school's all-time leader in games played against Bucknell, moved into fourth place all-time with 1,757 career points. Muldrow also broke a tie with Lanay Montgomery and took sole possession of fourth place with 947 career rebounds. Pardee made a pair of 3-pointers to tie Rebecca Burbridge for ninth place all-time with 168 career triples.

The series started in November of 1979 when the Dukes took a 69-61 win at Godwin Hall in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The Mountaineers won four straight after that, and have won the two most recent matchups (2003, 2015). WVU's losses have come in 1979 (A, 61-69), 2000 (H, 68-85) and 2001 (A, 56-74).
The Dukes enter the third round of the WNIT with a 23-10 overall record, having won five of their last six contests. JMU went 16-2 in the CAA, falling to Elon in the CAA Tournament semifinals. The Dukes are averaging 64.2 points and 40.9 rebounds per game and are shooting 39.0 percent from the field, 26.6 percent from the perimeter and 67.4 percent at the free-throw line. JMU averages 5.5 blocks per game with a total of 182 on the season.
"They play hard," coach Mike Carey said. "They have a good team. They have some good guards. They're going to play you some zone, some man. They're playing very well right now and shooting the ball well. We're going to have our hands full, and we're going to have to shoot the ball well and defend."
