MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia women's basketball team will cap the 2017-18 home slate and celebrate the class of 2018 on Saturday when the Mountaineers host No. 25/23 Oklahoma State in a 1 p.m. EST tip at the WVU Coliseum.
As part of Family Day, fans can purchase four tickets and a $15 concession voucher for $25. A Moment of Magic will be on hand collecting items for children in need, and fans who bring a new tory or blanket to donate to local children's' hospitals will receive free admission. Tickets are available at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office located at the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum for a cost of $5 for general admission or $3 for youths/seniors. Students gain free admission with a valid WVU student ID.
Dan Zangrilli and Meg Bulger will have the call for the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG. Fans in the Morgantown area can catch the action on Jack-FM 100.9 as well as various affiliates across the state. The WVU Gameday App, TuneIn and WVUsports.com will also carry the broadcast, with a free web stream available at WVUsports.com.
Prior to tipoff, the team will celebrate seniors Kristina King, Chania Ray and Teana Muldrow. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 12:45 for the Senior Day ceremony.
"They've done a great job and they've won a lot of games," coach Mike Carey said. "I feel bad for the seniors that we were in this situation this year. They've done everything they could do. But they can't get people healthy and they can't do what we needed to get done. They've continued to fight all season long here so I'm very proud of the three seniors."
WVU is coming off a 75-66 win over K-State in Manhattan on Tuesday. The win, which marked the 20th victory of the season for the Mountaineers, avenged an earlier loss to the Wildcats. With two games remaining, WVU has swept three opponents (Texas Tech, Kansas and Iowa State) and has split with two more (TCU, K-State).
King, a senior forward, tied her career high for the first time since the 2016-17 season with 16 points in the win over the Wildcats, while Muldrow recorded her 13th double-double of the season (23rd career) with 19 points and 11 rebounds. All five starters finished in double figures for the fourth time this season (Butler, Virginia Tech, TCU (1/13) and K-State).
West Virginia and Oklahoma State square off for the second time this season and 14th time overall this weekend. WVU leads the series 7-6 overall and 4-2 in Morgantown; however, OSU has won the two most recent meetings. The Mountaineers have been victorious in the last two meetings at the WVU Coliseum: 79-53 on Feb. 11, 2017, and 82-48 on Feb. 27, 2016.
The Cowgirls took the first meeting between the two by a score of 79-73 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Junior guard/forward Naomi Davenport had a team-high 25 points to lead the Mountaineers, while Muldrow netted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. WVU turned the ball over a season-high 24 times in the first meeting but countered with 11 3-pointers for a season-high at the time.
Oklahoma State enters Saturday's game at 18-9 overall and 9-7 in league play. OSU has lost three straight and is coming off a 66-59 loss at Kansas on Wednesday. The Cowgirls average 79.3 points per game and 39.7 rebounds per game and are shooting 42.6 percent from the field, 32.9 percent from the perimeter and 73.8 percent at the free-throw line. OSU ranks third in the league in scoring offense, free-throw percentage and steals.
Senior guard Loryn Goodwin leads the team in scoring at 20.7 points per game. Two additional starters average in double figures: Kaylee Jensen (18.6 ppg) and Braxtin Miller (11.3 ppg). Jensen leads the team in rebounding with 10.5 boards per contest and boasts a team-high 33 blocks.
WVU will finish out the regular season on Monday when the team travels to Waco, Texas, for a 9 p.m. tilt at No. 3 Baylor on FS1.
