Mountaineers, Cyclones Set for Rematch

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Jan. 19, 2018) – Coming off a tough road loss at No. 24 Oklahoma State on Wednesday, the No. 17/16 West Virginia women's basketball team travels to Ames, Iowa, on Saturday to face Iowa State for the second time this season. The Mountaineers and the Cyclones meet in a 7:30 p.m. EST tip at Hilton Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (15-4, 3-4) and the Cyclones (8-10, 2-5) previously meet on Jan. 7 in Morgantown, with WVU picking up the 57-49 victory. Junior guard Naomi Davenport led the way with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while senior guard Chania Ray scored 13 points in the win. Senior forward Teana Muldrow was held to single-digit scoring for the only time this season with nine points as WVU finished the game shooting 29.3 percent from the field.
The two will meet for the 13th time overall and 12th time in program history on Saturday. WVU leads the series, 8-4, overall and 7-4 in conference play, including the win earlier this season. The Mountaineers are 3-2 in games played in Ames, Iowa, but lost last season's meeting at Hilton Coliseum by a score of 68-53. This is the seventh time WVU will be nationally ranked for its meeting with the Cyclones.
WVU is coming off a 79-73 loss to No. 24 Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Wednesday. Davenport led WVU with 25 points in the loss while Muldrow netted 19 points and 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season and the 19th of her career. She is tied with OSU's Kaylee Jensen for the league lead in double-doubles.
West Virginia had a season-high 11 3-pointers against the Cowgirls as Davenport set a new career high by sinking five shots from beyond the arc. The Mountaineers also had a season-high 24 turnovers, the most since Jan. 29, 2017 at Texas, and 23 personal fouls. Senior forward Kristina King tied her career high with four blocks, while Chania Ray was subbed out of the contest for the first time since Dec. 21 against Morehead State.
Iowa State enters Saturday's contest with an 8-10 overall mark and a 2-5 record in conference play. The Cyclones are coming off a 79-50 loss to Baylor at home on Wednesday and are 6-4 at Hilton Coliseum this season, and is 1-3 in league games at home. The Cyclones beat Texas Tech, 66-54, on Jan. 13 and previously topped Kansas, 71-69, in overtime on Dec. 28.
ISU averages 67.1 points and 38.9 rebounds per game and is shooting 38.0 percent. Bridget Carleton leads the scoring with 18.3 points per game and is the lone Cyclone playing averaging double figures. Carleton also boasts a team-high 7.1 rebounds per game and a total of 65 assists. Kristin Scott has a team-high 18 blocks and is averaging 6.8 rebounds per game.
