Robby Brown joined the Mountaineer coaching staff as the special assistant to the head coach for football and senior analyst (offense) in March 2019.
Brown comes to West Virginia after serving as the offensive quality control and defensive assistant coach with the New York Jets since 2015. He is reunited with Neal Brown after serving for two years as an offensive graduate assistant coach at Troy from 2005-07.
At West Virginia, Robby Brown will work with the head coach on various administrative and organizational projects. He also will organize, implement and maintain all aspects of game analysis, including direct oversight of the game planning for the offense. He will analyze game film and formulate game plans to assist the coaching staff with game preparation.
While with the Jets, Brown assisted the offensive and defensive coordinator in all aspects of day-to-day operations and also assisted the wide receiver and outside linebacker coaches. He was responsible for all instant replay and time management decisions, assisted the head coach in all point after and fourth-down decisions and was the coaching staff liaison to the analytics department.
Prior to that, Brown served as the run game coordinator and running backs coach at South Alabama (2014) and was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Northwestern State in (2013). While at South Alabama, he worked closely the offensive coordinator in developing the game plan and assisted with the play calling. He was on the Jaguar staff that earned the school’s first-ever bowl invitation. While at Northwestern State, he assembled the entire offensive staff and signed quarterback Zack Adkins who passed for more than 5,500 yards in just two years.
Brown served as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator at Valdosta State for four years (2009-12). During his time at Valdosta State, the Blazers won the 2010 Gulf South Conference championship and made two playoff appearances (2010, 12). The Blazers ranked No. 1 in the Gulf South in every major offensive category in 2012, averaging more than 40 points and 469 yards per game.
He coached seven All-American selections and Gulf South freshman of the year.
Brown also had stints at Henderson State (2008) as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Southwest Baptist (2007). While at Henderson State, the Reddies set 12 school records and ranked No. 3 nationally in passing yards and No, 18 in total offense. His Bearcat offensive squad at SBU set 29 school records, 6 MIAA records and two national records.
Brown graduated with his bachelor’s degree in history, technology and society from Georgia Tech in 2004 and earned his master’s degree in sports and fitness management from Troy in 2007. As a student-athlete at Tech, he was part of two winning bowl teams - the 2003 Humanitarian Bowl and the 2004 Champs Sports Bowl.
Brown, and his wife, Rachel, have two daughters, Parks and Sarah Burns.
