Casey Smithson is the defensive recruiting coordinator for the Mountaineer Football program.
He has been a recruiting coordinator since 2014, assisting the director of player personnel in the recruitment of prospective football student-athletes.
His duties include coordinating in-person official and unofficial recruiting visits, maintenance of scholarship offers, overseeing the recruiting database and commitment lists, updating coaching staff on issues with recruiting and communicating eligibility/admission status with the coaching staff and the prospective student-athletes.
He assists with recruiting travel arrangements and maintaining the recruiting books for the coaching staff and the program’s recruiting calendar, establishing the data and video library and analyzing and researching trends and target areas for recruiting.
He is a liaison with the University admissions office and the athletic compliance office regarding all prospects, official and unofficial visits, admission requests and clearances.
Smithson also assists with the planning and operation of the annual camps and coaches’ clinics and builds relationships and maintains communication with the high school and junior college coaches to advance the program’s recruiting efforts.
Smithson has worked with the Mountaineer football program since 2007, when he assisted the coaching staff as a recruiting intern and also as a student recruiting assistant. He served as the recruiting and operations graduate assistant from 2011-14.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Virginia in 2011 and his master’s degree in sport management in 2014.
