WVU Completes Second 14-Point Comeback Road Victory in Nine Days
February 14, 2026 09:15 PM | Men's Basketball
West Virginia rallied from 14 points down in the second half to stun homestanding UCF 74-67 Saturday evening at Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida.
UCF, which owns home victories this year over Kansas and Texas Tech, loses for only the third time this season in its home arena.
It was a Valentine's Day to remember for the Mountaineers!
West Virginia, now 16-9 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play, completed its second 14-point, second-half comeback road victory in nine days. The Mountaineers made a similar comeback in their 59-54 triumph at Cincinnati back on Feb. 4.
Tonight, it was Honor Huff and Florida resident Jasper Floyd doing the damage for West Virginia. Huff overcame a miserable first half shooting performance to finish with a game-high 21 points - 18 of those coming after intermission.
Tampa's Floyd was required to come up with more than 60 tickets for friends and family today and he treated them to a 17-point, five-rebound, two-steal performance. It was his best scoring effort since the season-opening victory over Mount St. Mary's back on Nov. 4.
"Jasper hit some monster shots down the stretch and played tremendous defense," West Virginia coach Ross Hodge said afterward.
UCF (17-7 overall and 6-6 in the Big 12) led 29-28 at halftime and outscored the Mountaineers 23-10 over the first seven minutes of the second half.
Chance Moore's layup ended a UCF 7-0 run and began a spurt that saw West Virginia score 16 of the next 23 points over the next seven minutes to reduce UCF's lead to 54-53 with 7:26 to go.
Floyd's 3 with 6:25 left tied the game at 56, then it was Huff who took over the game. The senior guard scored WVU's next 13 points to give the Mountaineers a 69-62 lead with 59 seconds remaining.
UCF, which came into tonight averaging 82.4 points per game, could muster just two field goals over the final 5:29 of the game.
It was the fewest points the Knights have scored at home this season. The analytic stats showed West Virginia limiting UCF to just 30 scores on its 67 possessions today for a 44.8% scoring rate.
WVU also turned over UCF on 19.4% of its possessions.
"I thought we had the game where we needed it," Hodge observed. "The pace was where we needed it and we just didn't start the second half great. A lot of it was our turnovers. They are so explosive in transition and (Themus) Fulks is so good. You open up that floor and put their athletes out there running and it was turnover, two dribbles and layup."
Brenen Lorient chipped in with 11 for the Mountaineers, now 3-3 in true road games with three road contests left at TCU, Oklahoma State and Kansas State.
Fulks led UCF with 19 points.
Today's victory was a big boost to West Virginia's postseason aspirations. The Mountaineers came into today's game ranked 63rd in the NCAA NET, 62nd in KenPom and 44th in ESPN's BPI. Those will improve following tonight's win against UCF, ranked 44th in the NET, 50th in KenPom and 59th in ESPN's BPI.
It also separates West Virginia from a pack of teams that include 6-6 UCF and TCU, and 5-7 Cincinnati, and moves it into a tie with 22nd-ranked BYU for sixth place in the conference standings.
"They let me coach them hard and direct, and in those moments, they allow me to be brutally honest," Hodge said. "They might not like what is coming out of my mouth, but they trust me enough to know he's telling me the truth."
West Virginia returns to the Coliseum to meet Utah on Wednesday night.
