MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia punter Bryan Hansen was selected as one of "Ray's 8" for Week 5, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council and the Ray Guy Award on Monday.
Hansen is also in the running for being named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday.
At Iowa State, Hansen averaged 42.0 on five punts and placed three inside the ISU 20-yard line. He had a long punt of 52 yards.
This season, Hansen ranks fourth in the Big 12 Conference and No. 40 nationally, averaging 42.8 yards per punt. A native of Colleyville, Texas, Hansen has had five punts go for over 50 yards including a season long 74-yard punt against Coastal Carolina in the season opener.
The Augusta Sports Council created the Ray Guy Award in 2000 to honor Thomson, Georgia native and College and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Ray Guy. Among the statistics used to identify the winner are net punting average, percentage of punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned, with particular emphasis placed on net punting average. The winner must display team leadership, self-discipline, and have a positive impact on the team's success.
