
Three Mountaineers Earn CSC Academic All-District Team

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced the 2025 Academic All-District Football Team on Tuesday, which featured three West Virginia University student-athletes.
Senior punter Oliver Straw, redshirt senior defensive lineman Edward Vesterinen and redshirt senior offensive lineman Walter Young Bear earned spots on this year's team.
Straw (business administration) made his second appearance on the team, as did Vesterinen (sport management). Young Bear (integrated studies) earned the honor for the first time as a Mountaineer and second over his career (2024 – Tulsa).
Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Vesterinen is being considered for Academic All-America first-, second- and third-team honors, which will be announced on Jan. 27.
The College Sports Communicators Academic All-District award honors the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes football honorees in each of the four divisions listed as NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
