MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Ajanae Respass of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named to the 2025 Preseason All-Big 12 Soccer Team, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Additionally, the Mountaineers were picked to finish fourth in this year's preseason Big 12 poll, garnering 172 points via voting by the league's 16 head coaches. TCU topped the poll with 13 first-place votes and 223 points. Texas Tech was second (202 points) and BYU was just ahead of West Virginia with 191 points. Kansas followed the Mountaineers, rounding out the top five with 167 points.
Respass transferred to WVU in 2024 and immediately made a name for herself as a Mountaineer. In her first season in gold and blue, she co-led the team with seven goals. Starting all 20 matches in 2024, she also was the team's solo leader with 19 points and ranked ninth on the team with 1,207 minutes played.
She was recognized as the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week twice during the season last year and earned the Big 12 Conference's Offensive Player of the Week nod one time.
BYU and Texas Tech led all teams with five selections, Colorado and TCU garnered four honors each, while Kansas and Oklahoma State tallied three honorees. Arizona State, Baylor and West Virginia had earned one selection apiece.
The Preseason Poll and All-Big 12 Team were selected by the league's 16 head coaches, and they were not allowed to vote for their own team or players.
