
West Virgina Heads to Akron for Top-25 Matchup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 10 West Virginia University men's soccer team hits the road, Friday, Aug. 29, for the first time this season to take on No. 16 Akron. Kickoff from FirstEnergy Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers are 2-0 this season after shutting out La Salle, 4-0, in their most recent contest. Senior Marcus Caldeira scored two goals in the victory while junior Thijs Veldhorst and graduate student Bryce Swinehart had one.
Caldeira leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists this season. Junior Pablo Pozos has also added three goals with senior Ethan Dekel Daks adding one as well. Dekel Daks is also one of four players with two assists along with sophomore Isaac Scheer, senior Antonio Lima, and sophomore Oscar Emilio Trujillo Lizárraga.
In goal, graduate student Marc Bonnaire made two saves against La Salle to collect his first shutout of the season.
Akron is led by head coach Jared Embick, who is 147-61-36 during his time with the Zips and has made the NCAA College Cup three times in 12 seasons with Akron.
The Zips were picked as co-favorites in the Big East in the preseason coaches poll and have yet to allow a goal this season in two wins over VCU and Northern Kentucky. Mitch Budler was named the Preseason Big East Goalkeeper of the Year.
