MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Eight Mountaineers from the West Virginia University wrestling team were named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Scholar All-Americans as announced on Wednesday by the NWCA.
West Virginia was represented by redshirt sophomore
Ian Bush, senior
Michael Dolan, fifth-year
Caleb Dowling, fifth-year
Peyton Hall, freshman
Mason Kernan, freshman
Rune Lawrence, fifth-year
Tommy Maddox and redshirt junior
Jace Schafer.
This marks the most Mountaineers honored as NWCA Scholar All-Americans in program history. West Virginia has had five consecutive years with at least three NWCA Scholar All-Americans.
Hall is the first wrestler in program history to earn the honor five times. Dowling makes his third consecutive appearance, and Dolan and Bush each make their second straight appearance on the list. West Virginia now has 47 Scholar All-Americans all-time.
To qualify, student-athletes must meet one of the following criteria:
- All nominees are determined by the academic records returned and the results in TrackWrestling.
- Top 8 and 3.00 GPA
- National Qualifier and 3.2 GPA
- Conference qualifier and 3.5 GPA
- 15 matches with 60% win record and 3.5 GPA
