
Watters Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Redshirt sophomore Ty Watters of the West Virginia University wrestling team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Watters (157) earned his second All-American honor of his career with a sixth place finish at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
He becomes just the second Mountaineer at 157 pounds to become an All American.
Over the weekend, Watters secured wins against three ranked opponents to reach the podium.
He defeated Virginia's No. 22 Colton Washleski by fall, followed by a 7–1 decision over Penn's No. 6 Jude Swisher. He then earned a 6–5 decision against Cornell's No. 3 Tyler Shapiro to clinch his All-America finish.
