MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 23 West Virginia University wrestling team dominated Mercyhurst, 52-0, to open dual competition at Cameron High School in Cameron, W.Va., on Saturday.

West Virginia (1-0) had no issues in the first dual of the season as it rolled past Mercyhurst with five bouts ending by fall.

Redshirt sophomore Jake Stacey (197) began the night for West Virginia. Stacey used three takedowns in the third period to win by major decision, 19-5. That was one of just two bouts that went the full three periods.

In his first dual appearance as a Mountaineer, No. 14 redshirt sophomore Max Vanadia (HWT) scored a first period fall over Joey Baronick. His victory was followed by a technical fall win by No. 14 Louie Gill (125) over Brett Crawford, 17-1.

The next three of four bouts would end by fall. Sophomore No. 11 Gunner Andrick (133), redshirt freshman Ramil Islamov (149) and redshirt junior No. 6 Ty Watters (157) each won their bouts by fall.

The closest matchup of the evening came in the 141-pound bout between redshirt freshman Luke Satriano and Brian Melamud.

Satriano scored a takedown, two-point nearfall and three-point nearfall to open a large lead, 8-0. A reversal and takedown narrowed the lead as Satriano led by six, 11-5, heading into the third period. He eventually won the bout by decision, 12-5.

Redshirt junior Sasha Gavronsky (165) followed Satriano with a win by technical fall, 18-2. Redshirt senior Brody Conley (174) was dominant in his bout, winning by fall over Justin Bartee.

The hometown kid, redshirt senior No. 18 Ian Bush (184), wrapped up the night in front of a raucous crowd. Bush left no doubt, scoring a takedown and two nearfalls in the first period to lead, 10-0. He won the bout by technical fall, 18-0.

This marked West Virginia's first shutout and most points in a dual since it defeated Fairmont State, 56-0, in 2023.
