Mountaineers Drop Series Opener at BYU

The Mountaineers jumped out to a lead in the second inning, scoring four runs with two outs as redshirt junior Chase Swain delivered a two-run single and senior Brodie Kresser had a two-run double.
It was all Cougars after that as they scored one in the second and third before taking the lead with six runs in the fifth, five of which were unearned. BYU then added a run in the sixth, two in the seventh, and three in the eighth to put the game away.
Junior Ben Lumsden drove the in the final run of the night with his first hit of the season, a double in the ninth inning.
The two teams will meet again on Friday for game two of the series with first pitch scheduled for 8:30 p.m. ET.
