PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – In his final match as a Mountaineer, fifth-year
Peyton Hall won by major decision to place third at 165 pounds at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Hall began the day avenging a regular season loss to Utah Valley's No. 4 seed Terrell Barraclough in the consolation semifinals. It was a back-and-forth affair as Hall scored a takedown in the second period to take the lead, 3-1.
With less than 20 seconds remaining in the third period, Hall trailed Barraclough, 5-4, as the two grappled on the mat. In the final seconds, Hall scored his second takedown of the match to secure the victory and advance to the third-place match.
With a bronze medal on the line, Hall faced Nebraska's No. 12 seed Christopher Minto. A dominant second period separated Hall from Minto after he scored two takedowns. Hall earned the riding time point as he defeated Minto by major decision, 13-5.
Hall's third-place finish is the highest by any Mountaineer since Zeke Moisey placed second at 125 pounds in 2015. The bronze medal victory also marked Hall's 17
th career win at the NCAA Championships, tying him with Greg Jones for first all-time in WVU history.
As a team, West Virginia finished tied for 18
th place with 21 total points. This is the first time West Virginia has finished in the top 20 at back-to-back championships since 2004-05. West Virginia finished 17
th last season.
