
No. 8 Mountaineers Set to Host No. 6 Georgia Southern

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – For the second straight home game, the No. 8 West Virginia University men's soccer team welcomes a top-10 opponent to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium as No. 6 Georgia Southern comes to town for a highly anticipated Sun Belt matchup. Kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 4, is set for 7 p.m.
Nick Farrell and Michael Minnich have the call of Saturday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student ID. The game is sponsored by Crumbl with a game ball presentation taking place before the match. There will also be a Canned Food Drive at the game sponsored by Kroger.
The Mountaineers are 6-1-2 on the season and 2-0-0 in the Sun Belt after earning a 1-0 victory on the road at UCF, Sunday evening. Freshman Sammie Walker scored the lone goal with the assist credited to junior Thijs Veldhorst. The Mountaineer back line consisting of Veldhorst, graduate student Carlos Hernando, and senior Dante Huckaby played the full 90 minutes and did not allow a shot on goal.
Overall, junior Pablo Pozos leads the Sun Belt and is sixth in the nation with eight goals this season. Senior Marcus Caldeira leads the conference and is fifth in the country with six assists to go along with five goals this season. Pozos and Caldeira are No. 1 and No. 2 in the Sun Belt with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Graduate student Marc Bonnaire collected his fourth shutout of the season against the Knights. He has made 19 saves this season and has allowed just one goal from the penalty spot in two Sun Belt games.
Georgia Southern is led by third-year head coach Lee Squires, who is 16-16-11 during his time in Statesboro. The Eagles are 8-0-1 and 2-0-0 in conference play this season and are coming off a 2-1 victory over No. 4 Marshall.
Ricky Louis leads the squad with six goals while Nate Martinez has made 27 saves with five shutouts.
