
Mountaineers Head to Old Dominion to Begin Sun Belt Action

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 5 West Virginia University men's soccer team opens Sun Belt Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Old Dominion. Kickoff from ODU Soccer Stadium in Norfolk, Va., is set for 7 p.m.
The game will air on ESPN+ with live stats available on WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers are 4-0-2 on the season and are coming off a 2-2 draw against UNC Greensboro. Graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro and junior Marcus Caldeira each found the back of the net in the contest.
Ors Navarro leads the team and is second in the nation with eight goals. Graduate student Simon Carlson is second on the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists while Caldeira has tallied three goals on the year.
Redshirt senior Marc Bonnaire has made nine saves in goal for the Mountaineers, collecting three shutouts in the process.
On a per game basis, the Mountaineers are top five in the country in shots (19.50), shots on goal (8.50), and corner kicks (7.83) which helps them average 2.83 goals per game, eighth-best in the country.
Old Dominion is 4-2-1 on the season and have won two straight over William & Mary and George Mason.
Michael Eberle is the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week and has three goals this season to lead the squad. Michael Statham has recorded three shutouts in goal this season while making 27 saves.
