Two Mountaineers Advance to Finals at Bedford Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team wrapped up a strong second day in the Bedford Cup at the JTCC Tennis Facility in College Park, Maryland, on Saturday.
The Mountaineers began the day with senior Michaela Kucharova falling to Howard's Nadie Pegram, 6-0, 6-3. Redshirt junior Maja Dodik earned a win over George Washington's Vaida Matuseviciute, 7-5, 6-1, and senior Mille Haagensen picked up her second singles win of the weekend, with a 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 victory against Maryland's Katherine Hung.
Laura Villanueva Morillo picked up her first singles win of the Bedford Cup, defeating Christine Richiez from Loyola (Maryland).
In doubles play, the team of Kucharova and Dodik advanced to the finals after defeating George Washington's Vaida Matuseviciute and Madison Lee, 6-3. The pairing of Haagensen and Villanueva Morillo lost, 6-3.
On Sunday, two Mountaineers will compete in the finals as Dodik will battle Delaware State's Lucia Casas Blas, and Haagensen will face Pegram. The doubles pairing of Kucharova and Dodik will face Delaware State's Kit Yi Kaye Au-Yeung and Lucia Casas Blas in the finals.
