
Mountaineers Set to Host Saint Francis

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 3 West Virginia University men's soccer team returns to Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Monday, Aug. 26, to take on Saint Francis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Nick Farrell and Adam Zundell have the call of Monday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $6 each. Any remaining tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for youth at the stadium ticket window on match day. Tickets for WVU students are free with a valid student ID.
It is Dog Day at DDSS with fans encouraged to bring their four-legged friends to the match. Dogs must have proof of vaccinations and a waiver must be signed. The first 150 dogs in attendance will also receive a free collapsible bowl.
The Mountaineers are 1-0 on the young season after defeating Purdue Fort Wayne, 4-2, on Thursday. Graduate Sergio Ors Navarro netted a hat trick to lead WVU while junior Felix Ewald found the back of the net for the first time as a Mountaineer as well. Graduate Simon Carlson finished the night with two assists.
Overall, the Mountaineers outshot the Mastodons, 18-6, including 12-5 on shots on goal, while maintaining an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
West Virginia is now 38-21-5 in season openers, including 12-2 since 2011. The squad has won seven straight opening contests, dating back to 2017.
Saint Francis is led by second-year head coach Mads Keiser, who is 8-0-8 in his tenure with the Red Flash. SFU has not lost since 2022 as they went 7-0-8 last season and defeated St. Bonaventure, 3-0, in the season opener
Joschi Schelb scored two goals and collected an assist in the win over the Bonnies with Fabian Wagner finding the back of the net as well. Niclas Becker made four saves in his debut with the Red Flash to earn the shutout.
