CLEMSON, S.C. – The West Virginia University women's soccer team prepares for its first road trip of the 2024 campaign when it travels to Clemson, South Carolina, for a nonconference matchup with the Tigers on Friday, Aug. 23. Kickoff at Riggs Field is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Will Qualkinbush and Kevin Kennedy will have the call of Friday's match on ACC Network Extra. Live stats from the match also are available at WVUsports.com.
Friday's contest marks the fourth all-time meeting between West Virginia and Clemson. The Mountaineers hold a 2-1 advantage in the series, which includes a pair of meetings in Morgantown and one in Clemson. WVU and Clemson met for the first time on Aug. 26, 2016, with West Virginia claiming a 1-0 victory at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. Most recently, the two teams met in Morgantown again on Sept. 8, 2022, as the Tigers earned a 1-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
Last time out, West Virginia earned a 5-0 win over Radford at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Aug. 18. Led by a pair of scores from junior forward Taylor White, fifth-year senior midfielders Lilly McCarthy and AJ Rodriguez and senior forward Dilary Heredia-Beltran also found the back of the net against the Highlanders. Of note, White's brace marked the first of her career, as well as the first two-goal performance by a Mountaineer since Rodriguez scored two at Oklahoma on Oct. 23, 2022.
Ajanae Respass, Gianna Koss, Chloe Adler, Olivia Shertzer, Abbey Olexa, White and Heredia-Beltran all tallied assists in the win, while Heredia-Beltran was credited with the game-winning goal.
With a pair of goals and an assist against Radford, White is pacing the Mountaineer offense once again this season. She leads the team in goals (2) and points (5), while she is tied with seven other players for the team lead in assists (1). Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Mackenzie Smith and the WVU defense have not allowed a goal yet this season, opening the 2024 campaign with a pair of clean sheets last week.
Eddie Radwanski is in his 14th season as the head coach at Clemson after taking over the program in 2011.
The Tigers are coming off the program's first College Cup appearance in 2023 and are 1-1 so far this season. Clemson opened the 2024 campaign with a 4-0 loss to Auburn to open the season on Aug. 15, before earning a 2-0 win over High Point on Aug. 18.
