DeVries Adds Joseph Yesufu to 2024-25 Roster

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach Darian DeVries has announced that Joseph Yesufu has enrolled at West Virginia University and will join the Mountaineers for the 2024-25 basketball season.
 
Yesufu, a 6-foot, 180-pound guard from Bolingbrook, Illinois, attended Washington State last season. He previously attended Kansas for two seasons and two seasons at Drake under DeVries. Yesufu will be a fifth-year senior at WVU.
 
For his career, Yesufu has played in 119 games and has scored 698 points, grabbed 153 rebounds, has 127 assists and 77 steals.
 
"Joe is someone that bring valuable experience to our team," DeVries said. "He has great familiarity and a comfort level with how we do things. He's very explosive as a scorer and playmaker."
 
Last year at Washington State, the fifth-year senior played and started in six games before a season-ending hip injury. Yesufu posted a season-high 15 points against Mississippi State. He averaged 6.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.0 steals and 1.8 assists.
 
In 2022-23 at Kansas, Yesufu played in 35 games with three starts. He had four games scoring in double figures, including 14 points against Texas. Yesufu had back-to-back 14-point games against Tennessee and Texas Southern. He recorded three steals off the bench against Oklahoma State.
 
In his first year at Kansas, Yesufu tallied a season-high nine points against Kansas State and had four rebounds vs. West Virginia in the Big 12 Championship. He played in 34 games during the 2021-22 season.
 
Yesufu was named the Missouri Valley Conference Sixth Man of the Year at Drake and named to the MVC All-Bench and Most Improved teams. He was a MVC Scholar-Athlete and named to the MVC All-Tournament Team. Yesufu averaged 12.8 points, including a 23.2 points per game average in the last nine games of the season. He made at least four threes in five of those games. Yesufu reached the 30-point mark in both games against Evansville, setting a career-best 36 points in the second contest. He set a career high with six assists against Chicago State and made a career-best six 3-point field goals against USC in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Yesufu scored more than 15 points in 10 games.
 
He played in 13 games as a true freshman at Drake, sidelined with a leg injury. Yesufu's best game was 16 points, six rebounds, three assists and four steals against Simpson.
 
Yesufu attended Bolingbrook High in 2018-19 as was named the Herald News Boys Basketball Player of the Year. He averaged 16.0 points per game as a senior and 14.0 points as a junior.
