MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Eight members of the West Virginia University wrestling team will enter the 2024 Big 12 Wrestling Championship seeded among their respective weight classes.
The two-day event officially gets underway inside the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. ET. Fans can catch the first three sessions of the event on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, followed by the championship round on ESPN2 at 8:30 p.m., on Sunday, March 10.
West Virginia sends ten wrestlers, one at each weight class, to battle for one of 57 automatic bids granted to the Big 12 from the NCAA and a chance to compete at the 2024 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Kansas City, Missouri, from March 21-23.
WVU gained three top-five seeds for the fourth consecutive year after capturing three in 2023, three in 2022 and four in 2021. No. 4 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Missouri led the way as all ten of its starters received a seed.
After going a combined 45-9 during the regular season, the duo of senior Peyton Hall (165) and true freshman Ty Watters (149) both scored a third seed in their own brackets. This marks Hall's team-leading fourth appearance at the annual event, while Watters makes his collegiate postseason debut following a 2023 season that saw the freshman win his second straight Pennsylvania state title last March.
Redshirt sophomore Jordan Titus (141) rounded out the top-five seeds for the Mountaineers as he goes into his second championship appearance as the fourth seed. Titus took seventh last season in the Center Moriches, New York, native's tournament debut to clinch a spot at the 2023 NCAA Championships in Tulsa.
Five other starters claimed a seed advancing into championship weekend, including redshirt senior Michael Wolfgram (HWT), redshirt junior Dennis Robin (184) and junior Jett Strickenberger (125) each taking a seventh seed, and redshirt junior Austin Cooley (197) and redshirt freshman Brody Conley (174) both grabbing eight seeds. In addition, senior Caleb Dowling (157) and redshirt sophomore Davin Rhoads (133) prepare for battle unseeded.
