
Mountaineers Prepared to Host Georgia Southern in Sun Belt Quarterfinals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 10 West Virginia University men's soccer team is back at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, Sunday, to take on Georgia Southern in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Championship. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers are the top seed after claiming the Sun Belt regular season title with 19 points, two clear of rival Marshall. Overall, West Virginia is 10-1-6 on the season.
Nick Farrell and Adam Zundell have the call of Sunday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. Tickets are $15 each which includes admission to both quarterfinal games. Tickets for students are free with a valid student ID from any Sun Belt institution.
The Mountaineers took home numerous Sun Belt postseason awards with graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro claiming Sun Belt Player and Offensive Player of the Year while head coach Dan Stratford was named Coach of the Year. Ors Navarro, graduate student Ryan Baer, and graduate student Max Broughton were all named to the All-Sun Belt First Team while junior Marcus Caldeira and redshirt-senior Marc Bonnaire earned spots on the second team.
Ors Navarro leads the Sun Belt with 12 goals and 28 points while Caldeira is second on the Mountaineers with eight goals. Ors Navarro, freshman Isaac Scheer, and graduate student Simon Carlson lead the team with four assists each.
Bonnaire has made 33 saves this season and leads the Sun Belt with seven shutouts. Against conference opponents, he allowed just 0.750 goals per game.
Georgia Southern is the No. 8 seed in the SBC Championship after going 2-5-2 in conference play and 6-6-4 overall.
Ryan Holmes was named the Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year after tallying 10 goals and 22 points. Nate Martinez has played every minute in goal with 43 saves.
The winner of the first quarterfinal matchup will take on the winner of the second quarterfinal contest on Sunday between four-seed Kentucky and five-seed South Carolina. The semifinals will take place Wednesday at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
