MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University wrestling team travels to Lawrenceville, New Jersey, for its first road test of the season against Rider on Thursday, Nov. 14. Dual time is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Fans can catch all the action on Rider Athletics'
BroncVision, with live stats available on Trackwrestling.
"We're excited for our first road dual," seventh-year WVU coach
Tim Flynn said. "I don't think we wrestled as well as we could of against Glenville, so ready to see what we can do against a better team in Rider."
The Mountaineers take on the Broncs for the fourth time in history and first matchup not held on neutral grounds since the series began in 2000. West Virginia won the inaugural meeting by 20 points (29-9) at the national duals in State College, Pennsylvania, before edging out Rider by three (21-18) six years later at the Virginia duals. The pair wouldn't battle again until 2017, where the Broncs responded with a 28-6 victory at the Pittsburgh duals.
Coach John Hangey leads the Broncs into their first dual of the season with a 58-36 overall record
through seven seasons at the helm, which includes six winning seasons and a runner-up finish at the 2024 MAC Championships. This marked the program's highest finish at a postseason tournament since winning the 2016 tournament championship as a member of the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL). The program also took home a share of the EWL team dual meet championship in 2018, prior to the conference dissolving at the end of the 2018-19 campaign.
In the latest polls, West Virginia makes its third straight appearance in the top 25 this season, checking in at No. 19 in the NWCA Division I Wrestling Coaches Poll. Seven Mountaineers also land in the third edition of FloWrestling's rankings, including No. 22
Jett Strickenberger (125), No. 15
Jordan Titus (141), No. 3
Ty Watters (149), No. 4
Peyton Hall (165), No. 24
Brody Conley (174), No. 22
Ian Bush (184) and No. 33
Austin Cooley (197). Four Broncs head into the dual ranked as well – Sammy Alvarez (No. 24-149), Colton Washleski (No. 28-157), Michael Wilson (No. 27-174) and David Szuba (No. 20-HWT).
