
Top-Ranked Mountaineers Set to Host South Carolina

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 1 West Virginia University men's soccer team returns home for a conference matchup, Saturday, Oct. 19, against South Carolina. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
Admission to the game is free for all fans. It is also Alumni Weekend as all men's soccer alumni are invited to attend the game.
Michael Minnich and Adam Zundell have the call of Saturday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
West Virginia enters the contest looking to rebound after its first loss of the season at Dayton on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Junior Marcus Caldeira scored his seventh goal of the year in the defeat with senior Max Trethewey tallying an assist.
Graduate student Sergio Ors Navarro leads the Mountaineers and is fifth in the country with 11 goals. Caldeira is second on the team with his seven goals while graduate student Simon Carlson has contributed with four goals and a team-high four assists.
Redshirt-senior Marc Bonnaire has made 26 saves this season and registered six shutouts in goal for West Virginia.
The Mountaineers are unbeaten in their last 23 games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, holding a 15-0-8 record in that span dating back to the 2022 season.
South Carolina is 7-2-2 this season and 2-2-0 in the Sun Belt after defeating Georgia State, 2-0, on Oct. 11.
The Gamecocks lead the Sun Belt and are sixth in the country averaging 2.45 goals per game. Ethan Ballek and Harrison Myring each have seven goals to lead the team.
Filip Versterre has made 32 saves this season and recorded four shutouts between the pipes.
