Iowa State outscored the Mountaineers 43-20 in the second half to pull off a come from behind, 74-64, victory on Wednesday night over No. 24-ranked West Virginia inside the Hilton Coliseum on Wednesday in Ames.
The Mountaineers led for 33 minutes of the contest, as a shaky second half plagued their winning effort.
West Virginia's (13-2, 2-2 Big 12) scoring effort was led by sophomore guard
Jordan Harrison, who tallied 17 points to go along with seven assists, five steals and four rebounds. It marks the 13th time this season the Oklahoma City Oklahoma native has reached double digits in a game.
Senior forward
Kylee Blacksten finished with a season-high 16 points as fifth-year senior
Lauren Fields added 13 points. The pair each collected a team-high five rebounds. Junior guard
JJ Quinerly finished with 10 points and six assists.
Iowa State (11-4, 4-0 Big 12) was led by three double-digit scorers, including Audi Crooks who led the way with a game-high 22 points. She added 11 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
The Mountaineers scored on its first four shots of the contest, including knocking down three from beyond the arc, to an 11-7 lead at the seven-minute mark. Crooks kept the Cyclones in it, scoring their opening seven points of the contest.
Iowa State leveled the score at 13 at the 3:56 mark before Harrison scored five straight points to push the WVU lead back out to five points. The cyclones responded with four straight points of their own before WVU took a 21-19 lead after 10 minutes.
Iowa State struck first to level the score before a 10-2 run pushed the Mountaineers out to eight-point lead. The Cyclones pulled back within four points at the 4:30 mark, but a commanding 13-4 Mountaineer run gave West Virginia a 44-31 lead at halftime. WVU took 21 shots in the quarter while limiting ISU to just 12 attempts.
The Mountaineers knocked down nine 3's in the half while the Cyclones were 0-of-7 from beyond the arc.
West Virginia extended its lead out to 19 points, 55-36, over the opening four minutes of the third quarter. Iowa State then closed out the frame holding WVU scoreless, giving the Mountaineers an eight-point advantage entering final quarter. Iowa State outscored West Virginia 27-9 in the fourth to pull off the come from behind victory.
As a team, WVU shot 34.8% (24-of-69) from the floor and connected on just 12-of-43 tries from beyond the arc. The 12 makes from three are the second most this season as the 43 attempts are a season high. Iowa State attempted 16 fewer shots in the contest but knocked down 47.2% of its attempts.
With the result, West Virginia moves to 13-12 all-time against Iowa State, including a 7-5 mark in games played in Ames. The Mountaineers have not won inside the Hilton Coliseum since the 2017-18 season.
