MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior guard Erik Stevenson issued a public apology prior to meeting with the media Friday afternoon to discuss West Virginia's game against No. 3-rated Kansas on Saturday.
 
He drew technical fouls in the Mountaineers' games at Kansas State last Saturday and at Oklahoma State last Monday. Stevenson fouled out of both contests, an 82-76 overtime loss at Kansas State and a 67-60 defeat at Oklahoma State. 
 
"About the previous week, specifically Oklahoma State, I know my actions do not represent this program as it should be, this coaching staff, this fanbase and my teammates and I just wanted to apologize for that," a somber Stevenson began.
 
"I know how serious it is and I know my actions didn't technically cost us the game, but it prevented me from staying in the game and that could have helped us win both ball games," he added. "Those are things that I just don't do on a regular basis. I know it doesn't look good on my part and I just wanted to clarify my apology for those actions – especially this fanbase and to coach (Bob Huggins)."
 
He concluded his one-minute statement with another apology. 
 
"I just want move on from it and put it in the past and not answer any questions about that topic," he concluded.
 
Stevenson's three triples during a 1:28 span in the second half gave West Virginia its first lead against Oklahoma State, but after making his final 3 with 7:20 left, he was called for a technical foul as he ran down the floor. It was his fourth foul and his fifth foul came just two minutes later to end his night.
 
The 6-foot-4 senior guard is West Virginia's leading scorer averaging 14.1 points per game.
 
West Virginia faces the Jayhawks tomorrow night at the WVU Coliseum in a 6 p.m. game that has already been announced a sell out. Television coverage is on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
