MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – In its eighth season under coach
Reed Sunahara, the West Virginia University volleyball team opens the 2022 season at the Penn State Classic from Aug. 26-27, at Penn State's Rec Hall, in University Park, Pennsylvania.
WVU opens play against Loyola on Friday, Aug. 26, at 12 p.m. ET. The squad wraps Friday's action against Duquesne at 4:30 p.m. The Mountaineers conclude the Penn State Classic when they take on host Penn State on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.

"We're excited about this weekend," Sunahara said. "This is going to give us a good indication of where we are, and we look forward to playing three matches against three good teams."
Last year, the squad tied a program-best, 8-8 mark to finish third in the Big 12, its highest league finish in Sunahara's seven-year tenure. Overall, WVU posted a 19-win season, the second-highest win total in Sunahara's WVU career. The Mountaineers return 7 letterwinners to the court this season.
Five individuals finished the season in the top 10 of six Big 12 categories. Junior
Skye Stokes finished second with 56 service aces.
Fifth year outside hitter
Adrian Ell earned 432 points, good for fourth in the Big 12. Additionally, she finished seventh in kills with 354, averaging 3.47 kills per set.
The Mountaineers and Greyhounds meet for the fourth time in program history on Friday. WVU swept Loyola in its most recent meeting on Aug. 27, 2021, in Norfolk, Virginia. Of note, WVU leads the all-time series 2-1.
This will be the 48th meeting between the Mountaineers and the Dukes on volleyball court, as WVU leads the series, 28-19.
The squad wraps up the weekend on Saturday, when they face tournament host Penn State. The Mountaineers are seeking their first win against the Nittany Lions.
