Mountaineer Gridders Sign NFL Free Agent Contracts

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Running back Leddie Brown and safety Sean Mahone have signed NFL free agent contracts following the conclusion of this year's NFL Draft, it was announced on Saturday.
Brown signed a rookie free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers while Mahone inked a rookie free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Also, safety Alonzo Addae has been invited to the Arizona Cardinals rookie mini-camp.
Brown is a two-time, 1,000-yard rusher who gained a career-high 1,065 yards in 12 games last season for the Mountaineers. He also ran for a team-best 13 touchdowns while catching 36 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown before opting out of West Virginia's Guaranteed Rate Bowl loss to Minnesota on Dec. 28.
He had four carries for 16 yards in this year's East-West Shrine Bowl played Feb. 3 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, and was invited to participate at this year's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Mahone produced 197 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, seven pass breakups, 2½ sacks and four interceptions in 55 career games for the Mountaineers. He generated a career-best 81 tackles as a senior in 2021.
Addae had 139 tackles, eight pass breakups and a pair of interceptions in two seasons for the Mountaineers after transferring from New Hampshire, and was selected to play in this year's Hula Bowl on Jan. 15 in Orlando, Florida.
Safety Scottie Young Jr. and specialists Evan Staley and Tyler Sumpter also participated in this year's West Virginia Pro Day on March 29 inside the Caperton Indoor Practice Facility but have not landed deals yet.
West Virginia saw its current streak of having at least one NFL player taken in the NFL draft end this year. The last time the Mountaineers were shut out of the NFL Draft was 2007.
