Box Score MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team played to a 3-3 draw against No. 2 Kentucky on Saturday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
 
In an instant classic in front of 2,096 fans, the Mountaineers (4-6-3, 1-1-3 Sun Belt) trailed, 2-0, early, but battled back to take a 3-2 lead in the 78th minute. However, the Wildcats (8-0-4, 3-0-2 Sun Belt) recorded the final tally of the night to secure the draw.
 
Fifth-year senior forward Adam Burchell scored WVU's first goal in the 24th minute, while redshirt senior defender/midfielder Dyon Dromers tallied a brace, finding the back of the net in the 61st and 78th.
 
UK held a two-goal advantage just 11 minutes into the match after back-to-back, early tallies. Then, Burchell finished off a great feed from junior forward Yutaro Tsukada in the 24th to cut the deficit in half.
 
It stayed that way until halftime.
 
In the second half, Dromers tied it at 2 in the 61st minute with a goal off a Mountaineer corner kick. The Steensel, Netherlands, native scored again in the 78th off junior midfielder Ryan Crooks' assist to give West Virginia a brief, 3-2 lead.
 
The advantage was short-lived, however, as Kentucky answered right back 23 seconds later to make it 3-3.
 
WVU nearly won it in the final 10 seconds of the match when redshirt junior midfielder/defender Sergio Ors Navarro got his head on a Mountaineer corner kick. But the chance was saved, denying West Virginia of a buzzer-beater victory.
 
Kentucky held a 17-11 advantage in shots, including 7-6 in shots on goal. The Wildcats also earned six corner kicks to WVU's four.
 
Dromers led the way with three shots – all of them on frame. In goal, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Marc Bonnaire made a career-high three saves.
 
With the result, the Mountaineers moved to 0-1-1 against UK in the all-time series. The squad is now unbeaten at home in 19 of its last 20 home matches, dating back to March 24, 2021.
 
Additionally, West Virginia is now 4-1-1 against top-three foes at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium, which opened in 2004.
 
Next up, Sun Belt Conference action continues as the Mountaineers travel to Harrisonburg, Virginia, for a match against James Madison on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
