MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has announced that Tony Pineda has transferred to WVU and will join the program for the 2019 season.
A forward from Statesville, North Carolina, Pineda comes to WVU after an impressive freshman campaign at High Point, where he was named a Freshman All-America Second Team by College Soccer News and the Big South Freshman of the Year.
Pineda was third in the Big South with seven goals and 19 points in 2018. In 18 matches with two starts, he was second on the team with five assists and third with 12 shots on goal and had 22 shots in 1,081 minutes played.
Pineda hopes to pursue a career in biomedical engineering at the conclusion of his playing career. His parents are Erik and Alonzo, and he has two brothers.
Pineda joins a signing class of nine future Mountaineers that was announced in February, along with Pau Jimenez Albelda, who transferred to WVU and joined the Mountaineers in January and Luke McCormick and Hugo Ellouk, who committed in March. The 13-member 2019 class will take the pitch for West Virginia in the fall of 2019.
