Manoah Earns National Weekly Accolades

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University junior right-handed starter Alek Manoah has earned a pair of national awards, as he was named the National Pitcher of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), and recognized with the Golden Spikes Award/D1Baseball.com Performance of the Week award by USA Baseball.
Manoah is the first Mountaineer to earn a national NCBWA weekly honor since Michael Grove in 2017.
Along with the NCBWA and USA Baseball national accolades, Manoah was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week on Monday.
A Miami native, Manoah struck out 11 batters in 8.0 shutout innings to lead the Mountaineers to an 11-1, series-opening victory at No. 23 Oklahoma State on Friday night.
In the win, Manoah held the Cowboys to three hits with no walks and 11 strikeouts in a career-long 8.0 innings. He earned his sixth quality start in eight starts this season. Manoah retired the side in order five times and limited OSU to just three baserunners, only one of which advanced to second base, in the eighth inning.
Manoah's performance helped WVU win the series at OSU, its second consecutive series victory against a top-25 opponent. West Virginia has won five of its last six games.
Up next, the Mountaineers travel to Maryland before a third consecutive Big 12 weekend series against a top-25 foe, vs. No. 11 Texas Tech from April 12-14. WVU and UMD meet on Wednesday, April 10, at 4 p.m. ET, in College Park, Maryland.
