MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has announced that Hugo Ellouk has transferred to WVU and will join the program for the 2019 season.
A defender from Paris, France, Ellouk comes to WVU after he played his freshman season at Omaha. He will be a sophomore next year for the Mountaineers.
"I have decided to commit to WVU because I had a great feeling with the coaches, and I wanted to have a new challenge and then to play for one of the best universities in the country," Ellouk said. "Many people told me that WVU is the best atmosphere in college soccer, so it was an easy decision."
As a freshman at Omaha in 2018, Ellouk played in 16 matches with 10 starts. He had two assists, six shots and one shot on goal in 1090 minutes played. Ellouk attended Lycée Marie Curie de Versailles in Paris, and played club for Athletic Club de Boulogne-Billancourt (ACBB), where he was a team captain in 2015 and 2016.
Ellouk plans to pursue a degree in general business at WVU, and he hopes to work in sports finance when his playing career concludes. His parents are Didier and Rachel, and he has one brother.
Ellouk joins a signing class of nine future Mountaineers that was announced in early February, along with Pau Jimenez Albelda, who transferred to WVU and joined the Mountaineers in January, and Luke McCormick, who committed to WVU earlier this month. The 12-member 2019 class will take the pitch for West Virginia in the fall of 2019.
