MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's soccer coach Marlon LeBlanc has announced that Luke McCormick has signed to join the program for the 2019 season.
McCormick joins a signing class of nine future Mountaineers that was announced in early February, along with Pau Jimenez Albelda, who transferred to WVU and joined the Mountaineers in January. The 11-member 2019 signing class will take the pitch for West Virginia in the fall of 2019.
"WVU is a University that has both a great academic and soccer reputation," McCormick said. "I chose to come to WVU because it gives me the chance to play a high level of soccer with a team that is going places and continue my education. I'm looking forward to working with Coach LeBlanc and the other coaches and having a successful season."
A midfielder from Derby, England, McCormick attends John Port School and plays for coach Lee Shepherd, where he led the squad to league and cup titles in 2015 and 2016. McCormick also is on Nottingham Forest FC academy's team, playing for coach Tom Mallinson. He helped his team to the 2015 Evima Cup Tournament title in Bulgaria, and played for the U-18 and U-23 squads from 2016-18. In 2018, the U-18 team reached the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup. In 2017, McCormick also was selected to train with England's U-17 national team.
McCormick is undecided on his major at West Virginia, and he aspires to play in Major League Soccer when his Mountaineer career concludes. His parents are Keith and Diane, and he has two sisters. His father, Keith, played soccer at New Haven.
