Mountaineers Back in Top 25

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's soccer team is back in the national rankings, checking in at No. 23 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25, the organization announced on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers (6-2-1) rejoin the rankings following a pair of victories last week. WVU topped Ohio State, 4-1, on Sept. 24, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ohio, before returning home to defeat Penn, 3-0, on Sept. 28, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Virginia (8-0) owns the No. 1 spot in this week's poll, followed by No. 2 Stanford (7-0-1) and No. 3 Wake Forest (8-1). SMU (8-0) and Georgetown (7-1) round out the top five.
Along with the United Soccer Coaches poll, West Virginia sits at No. 26 in the College Soccer News Top 30 National Poll this week. Additionally, senior midfielder Andres Muriel Albino was named to the CSN National Team of the Week, as well as the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Muriel Albino also was an honorable mention selection for TopDrawerSoccer.com's Men's Team of the Week. The Sevilla, Spain, native collected three goals in the Mountaineers' two wins last week, including two against Ohio State.
West Virginia has now been ranked in at least one national poll's top 25 in five of six weeks this season. WVU has scored multiple goals in four of its last five matches and is unbeaten in six of its last seven matches.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday, Oct. 4, against No. 25-ranked San Diego. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET. The matchup marks WVU's third top-25 opponent this season.
Along with the return of Friday Night Futbol, featuring half-off drinks until kickoff, the Mountaineers will celebrate National Taco Day, with $2.50 walking tacos available at the concession stand. Additionally, the first 300 fans will receive maracas to help cheer on the team.
