Grier Named Maxwell Award Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University redshirt senior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Will Grier has been named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week, as announced by the Maxwell Football Club today.
Grier led the Mountaineers to a 40-14 win over Tennessee on Sept. 1, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. He completed 25 of his 34 pass attempts for a career-high 429 yards and five touchdowns. He became the first Mountaineer in program history to register four games of five passing touchdowns in his career.
WVU returns to the field for the 2018 home opener on Saturday, Sept. 8, when it hosts Youngstown State. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET, at Milan Puskar Stadium.
Each week during the 2018 season the Maxwell Football Club will recognize outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week will be honored for outstanding defensive play. Players selected do not have to be represented on the Maxwell or Bednarik Award watch lists.
