Four Earn Academic All-Big 12 Accolades

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four members of the West Virginia University baseball team have been named to the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team.
Junior right fielder Darius Hill was named to the first team, while senior right-handed pitcher Shane Ennis, sophomore catcher Chase Illig and sophomore right-hander Kade Strowd were recognized on the second team.
Hill, from Dallas, Texas, is honored for the second consecutive year after he was named to the second team as a sophomore. He is majoring in management.
A Romney, West Virginia, native, Ennis is named to an Academic All-Big 12 Team for the first time in his career. He completed his degree in athletic coaching education this semester.
Illig, a native of Bluefield, West Virginia, was named to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team a year ago. He is pursuing a degree in sport management.
Strowd was named to the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. A Fort Worth, Texas, native, he is majoring in general business.
First team members consist of those who have maintained a grade point average of 3.20 or better, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
The Mountaineers welcome Baylor to Morgantown, from May 17-19, for the final regular-season series of the year. First pitch on Thursday, May 17, and Friday, May 18 is set for 6:30 p.m., while Saturday's Senior Day contest will commence at 1 p.m. Tickets are available for all three games at WVUGAME.com, by calling 1-800-WVU GAME, at the Mountaineer Ticket Office at the WVU Coliseum or on game day at Monongalia County Ballpark. Admission for WVU students is free with a valid student I.D.
Friday night is the final Friday Night Happy Hour of the year, with half-off beverages available from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday is Family Day, Senior Day and the final trading card giveaway and postgame autograph session of the year. Fans can purchase four tickets and receive a $10 concession voucher for just $25. The home finale also is National Armed Forces Day, with $3 tickets for members of the military with a military ID. Additionally, fans at Thursday and Friday's games can play Baseball Bingo.
