SERIES HISTORY VS. WILDCATS
West Virginia is 8-7 all-time against Kansas State, with all 15 meetings coming since WVU joined the Big 12 Conference prior to the 2013 season. The Mountaineers are 4-2 in Morgantown and 4-5 in Manhattan, Kansas.
In K-State's first visit to Morgantown in 2014, West Virginia swept the Wildcats at Hawley Field. After a 10-1 win in the opener, the Mountaineers won the series with a 6-5, walk-off victory on a fielder's choice. WVU completed the sweep with a 6-1 victory.
West Virginia followed it up with a series win in Manhattan in 2015, before K-State took two-of-three in Morgantown in 2016. West Virginia capped the 2016 series with a comeback victory on Sunday. WVU rallied with four two-out runs in the eighth inning to beat the Wildcats, 5-4. In the series opener against K-State, WVU rallied with four runs to tie the game in the seventh, but it was not enough in an 8-6 loss. Kansas State won on Saturday, 15-2.
Last year at K-State, West Virginia suffered its first Big 12 series loss of the season and became the final conference team to lose a Big 12 weekend series after going 1-2 in Manhattan. WVU won the opener, 9-7, and lost Saturday's contest, 8-4. The Wildcats secured the series with an 11-4 victory in the finale.
Kyle Gray led WVU offensively, with three hits in each game.

- WVU pitchers struck out 12 batters, led by sophomore right-handed starter Isaiah Kearns. A week after striking out a career-high eight batters in a win over Pitt, Kearns matched that total in just 4.0 innings. He allowed two runs on two five hits with one walk. Kearns earned the win to improve to 2-1 on the season.
- WVU improved to 3-1 this season against CC, after the two teams met in Morgantown for a weekend series in March. Wednesday's game was organized a day earlier after inclement weather canceled the Mountaineers' game at Pitt on Tuesday night.
