Life as a Mountaineer: Colton McKivitz
November 08, 2018 10:15 AM | Football
When West Virginia University senior right tackle Colton McKivitz is not hunting blitzing linebackers, he's usually out in the woods hunting deer, ducks, squirrels or just about anything else that's furry and moves.
Recently, our producer Sean Merinar spent the day in the woods with licensed hunters Colton and his father, Matt, seeking to bag a few ducks.
"Why would I want to be in an office? I'm out here getting to hunt," the wildlife and fisheries resources major said.
Unfortunately for Colton, it was no dice … ehem, ducks … on this particular excursion.
"I don't know why there are no ducks coming? They don't like our calling," Colton exclaimed. "I don't know if it's my calling or dad's calling – it's most likely dad's calling because he never sounds like a real duck!"
Nevertheless, a bad day in the woods beats the best day in an office anytime, as far as Colton McKivitz is concerned.
"It's about friends and camaraderie and just getting to spend time outdoors - even if it is raining," he said.
The very next day Colton was back at it, this time picking up three ducks without the cameras around.
Now, let's hope Colton can pick up all of those blitzing linebackers he sees this Saturday afternoon when the Mountaineers face TCU at Milan Puskar Stadium!
