No. 19 Mountaineers Host Hawks Monday Afternoon

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 19 West Virginia University men's soccer team looks to improve on a 3-0 start to the season with a Labor Day matchup against Monmouth on Monday, Sept. 4, at 3:30 p.m. ET, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
Monday's contest is the first game of a doubleheader with the WVU women's team, who hosts Wright State at 6 p.m. One ticket will be good for admission to both matches, and tickets are available at WVUGAME.com and at the DDSS ticket office. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youths under 13 and senior citizens and $2 for groups of 10 or more. WVU students are admitted free with a valid WVU Student I.D.
To provide a safer environment for Mountaineer fans and to expedite entry into all ticketed WVU athletic events, the West Virginia Department of Intercollegiate Athletics enforces the NFL's Clear Bag Policy. The 19th-ranked Mountaineers (3-0) are coming off a 4-1 win against Wright State on Friday night in their home opener. Senior Jad Arslan continued his hot start to the season, with two goals, and has scored the game-winner in all three of WVU's matches in 2017.
Arslan leads the team with four goals, eight points, nine shots and four shots on goal. Junior Jorge Quintanilla leads the team with four assists and is second with six points and tied for second with one goal. In goal, junior Stephen Banick has two shutouts and has made 11 saves for a .917 save percentage while allowing just one goal, on a penalty kick.
SCOUTING MONMOUTH
Monmouth is 2-1 on the season, with home wins over Georgia Southern and Penn and a road loss at College of Charleston. The year began with a 1-0 victory against Georgia Southern, followed by a 1-0 loss in Charleston. On Friday night, Monmouth defeated Penn, 2-0.
Geoffrey Schaefer, Colin Stripling and Andy Martinez have all scored one goal this season for Monmouth, with Stripling and Martinez notching game-winners. In goal, Bobby Edwards has started all three games and has made eight saves while allowing one goal.
The Hawks are led by Robert McCourt, in his 14th season in West Long Branch, New Jersey. McCourt owns a 152-62-49 record, with nine regular-season conference titles and five tournament crowns.
SERIES HISTORY VS. THE HAWKS
West Virginia owns a 1-1 all-time record against Monmouth, with both of the previous two contests coming at home and going into overtime. The first meeting came in 2002, a 1-0 win in overtime. Eight years later, in 2010, the Mountaineers suffered a 1-0 loss in double overtime.

The Mountaineers return to action against UCF on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m. ET, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Admission will be free for all fans, courtesy of WVU Medicine. The game comes after the WVU football team hosts East Carolina at noon.

The lone goal for the Raiders came on a penalty kick in the 21st minute. Junior goalkeeper Stephen Banick made three saves and has allowed just one goal in his first three career games as a Mountaineer.
