MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - What Mountaineer fans appreciated on the east side of Milan Puskar Stadium last year will now be enjoyed on the west side, starting with West Virginia's season opener game against East Carolina on Saturday, Sept. 9.
"Our goal was to make the west side somewhat of a mirror image of the east side for our fans," West Virginia University Director of Athletics
Shane Lyons said.
The amount of additional space that has been created for Mountaineer fans attending home football games is truly impressive.
Also impressive are the number of toilets and urinals that have been added in the restrooms, the number of points of sale for fans wanting to get something to eat, the number of television monitors that have been added inside the concourse area, the increased ADA accessibility, as well as the graphical enhancements that have been added to the concourses.
You will notice the improvements from the moment you leave your tailgate to begin the short walk to the additional gates designed to reduce your wait time getting into the stadium.
"We've added almost 50 percent more space to help with traffic flow for pedestrians," Lyons noted. "That's one of the key points to this.
"Our architects have worked very hard to make the flow something comfortable for our fan base and to try and have more access to gates."
Once inside, you are really going to be able to soak up a tremendous experience that truly captures the pageantry and excitement of Mountaineer football.
Here are some of the specifics of what west-side fans can expect when entering the newly refurbished concourse:
- Additional men's toilets and urinals and 56 more sinks than offered last season
- 100 additional women's toilets
- Two family restrooms
- An increase of 21 points of sale for concessions to 69
- 75 total TVs on the west-side concourse and field boxes
- Improved stadium speaker system at the concession area, restrooms and gates
- Eight cell phone charging stations
- ADA accessible gates and two full service elevators
- A catering kitchen for the suites
- A total of 18 points of entry on the west side alone
"We've got to continue looking at what we can do to enhance the fan experience," Lyons noted. "But we've still got some work to be done for our student-athletes in the medical area, the locker rooms and the team meeting rooms, which fans don't get to see.
"That's what we will focus on from our football facility, but you just have to keep having a vision of where we are headed and how we can continue to make enhancements."
Indeed, it truly is impressive all of the great things happening at Milan Puskar Stadium.
We invite you to come out and see for yourself!
