WVU Holds Close First Half Lead

West Virginia leads Texas 17-13 at halftime, but dropped passes and dropped interceptions have the Mountaineers thinking what could have been.
After spotting Texas an early 3-0 lead, West Virginia scored the game’s next 17 points and seemingly had control of the game. Kicker Mike Molina booted a season-best, 44-yard field goal, freshman running back Kennedy McKoy bound in from the eight and Skyler Howard hooked up with Ka’Raun White down the near sideline for a 29-yard touchdown, but Texas, aided by those drops, stormed back.
Freshman quarterback Shane Buechele led two late scoring drives, one covering 58 yards and reaching the end zone when Buechele called his own number for a 10-yard run, and the other consuming 21 plays, 84 yards and 6:48 of the clock ending with Trent Domingue’s 19-yard field goal with seven seconds left in the half.
Domingue began the scoring on the game’s opening drive when he pushed through a 27-yard field goal between the uprights.
The Longhorns have a 252-211 advantage in total yardage at halftime, a lot of those coming from D’Onta Foreman, who ran 20 times for 114 yards to extend his streak of 100-yard games to 11. Almost half of Foreman’s 114 yards came on just two runs.
Howard, meanwhile, completed 11 of 18 passes for 155 yards and a touchdown, but at least four drops by WVU receivers could have made those numbers much better and also kept Mr. Foreman watching from the sideline.
McKoy added 48 yards on 14 attempts for the Mountaineers.
