Countdown to Kickoff

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia and Liberty hook up for a 3 p.m. college football game at Milan Puskar Stadium today in Morgantown, West Virginia.
It’s Liberty’s second appearance at Milan Puskar Stadium, the first coming in 2009 when the Flames dropped a 33-20 decision to the Mountaineers.
Liberty (1-0) is coming off a 32-13, season-opening victory over Delaware State last Saturday on the same day West Virginia topped Georgia Southern 44-0 in its season opener.
ROOT Sports will televise the game locally while the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG’s coverage begins with the Mountaineer Tailgate Show at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased through the Mountaineer Ticket Office by calling 1-800-WVU GAME or by logging on to WVUGAME.com.
Today’s game is a Family Day, with a family of four receiving four tickets and a $25 concession voucher for just $150. Orders are being accepted online and through the Mountaineer Ticket office until halftime of today’s game.
A crowd of about 53,000 is expected.

10 – There are TEN true freshmen defensive players on the Mountaineer roster this year.
9 – WVU has won NINE times under Coach Dana Holgorsen when the Mountaineers have at least two 100-yard receivers, going 9-2 overall in those games.
8 – West Virginia enters week two ranked EIGHTH in the country in passing yards with 359. Quarterback Skyler Howard completed 16 of his 25 pass attempts with two touchdowns.
7 – The Mountaineers have produced SEVEN defensive touchdowns in the last two seasons - four coming on interception returns and three by way of fumble recovery returns.
6 – Only SIX players had more than 50 offensive plays during last week’s 44-0 victory over Georgia Southern, four of those coming from offensive linemen Yodny Cajuste, Tyler Orlosky, Adam Pankey and Marquis Lucas.
5 – Georgia Southern managed to convert just FIVE of its 16 third-down tries last Saturday against West Virginia’s defense for a 31 percent conversion rate.
4 – FOUR WVU players enter today’s game with at least 20 career games of starting experience: Karl Joseph (39), Nick Kwiatkoski (25), Cody Clay (22) and Kyle Rose (21).
3 – Safety Karl Joseph produced THREE interceptions during last Saturday’s win over Georgia Southern, all three picks coming in the THIRD quarter.
2 – Today’s game is Liberty’s SECOND appearance at Milan Puskar Stadium, the first coming in 2009 when the Mountaineers defeated the Flames 33-20.
1 – Shelton Gibson (130 yards) and Jovon Durante (121 yards) produced 100-yard receiving performances in their FIRST career starts at WVU last Saturday against Georgia Southern.
